Fiberglass / GRP fabrication
Glass fiber reinforcement and a compatible resin create a composite shell. We plan whether to laminate over a master or core, or use a mold for repeated parts.
Cost & setup
Medium · tooling extra
Glass reinforcement is generally less expensive than carbon. A new mold adds an initial cost; its value improves when the same shape is produced repeatedly.
Detail & surface
The visible surface follows the master and mold quality. Fine detail is possible, but draft, parting lines and access for lamination must be designed.
Strength & stiffness
A designed laminate is much more resistant to handling than bare foam. Stiffness, impact response and load capacity depend on the laminate, geometry, resin and supports.
Weight
Hollow shells avoid a solid fill. A comparable stiffness target generally requires more weight than a well-designed carbon laminate.
Use & exposure
Resin, gelcoat or paint, sealed joints and fixings are chosen for the exposure. Outdoor suitability belongs to the complete system.
One-off & repeated production
A useful route for repeated shells and durable display pieces, once mold setup is justified.
Delivered finish
Gelcoat, paint or a prepared textured finish. The mold-contact face and the rear laminate can have different finishes.
How we make it
- Develop the master, mold or core and the part split.
- Laminate glass reinforcement with the selected resin and cure it.
- Demold or trim, add attachments and finish the surface.

Limitations
- A thin shell still needs correctly designed supports and attachment zones.
- A cosmetic gelcoat is not a substitute for a structural laminate.
Common questions
How is fiberglass different from polyester?
Glass fiber is the reinforcement; polyester is one possible resin matrix. Epoxy or other resin systems may be selected for a particular process or requirement.
Why choose fiberglass instead of carbon?
For many decorative shells, its cost and useful durability make more sense. Carbon becomes more relevant when stiffness at low weight justifies the extra material and process cost.
